CARING FOR YOUR TEETH

Quality Dental Care in Houston, TX & Channelview Area

The care you provide to your teeth on a daily basis is instrumental in keeping your smile healthy, and avoiding the complications poor oral hygiene leads to. At a minimum, the American Dental Association recommends brushing teeth twice a day. Make sure to use a toothbrush with adequate bristle length and density- if your toothbrush is worn down, it will not provide the cleaning power it was meant to and should be replaced. Use a modest amount of toothpaste and begin brushing, focusing on the outer surfaces, inner surfaces, and chewing surfaces of your teeth. Be sure to give extra attention to the gum-line, and around crowns and fillings. Brushing the tongue can help to freshen breath. After two whole minutes, spit out the toothpaste and rinse your mouth (parents, please monitor your young children to be sure they're not using too much toothpaste and/or swallowing).

After your teeth have been brushed, they should be flossed, at least once a day, to remove any food particles stuck in-between the teeth. Take a length of floss and gently clean the spaces on the sides of your teeth, even those not touching another tooth. Regular flossing will keep your gums healthy, preventing gingivitis and other gum diseases that, besides giving your smile an unhealthy appearance, can lead to tooth loss.

By following these recommended daily practices, you can help keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright!
